The American Cinematheque will honor actor and filmmaker Michael B. Jordan with a career retrospective leading up to its annual awards gala on November 20 at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively revealed.
Back in May, the organization announced that Jordan, star of
Sinners, would receive its American Cinematheque Award, the
organization’s highest recognition. The upcoming retrospective will highlight
key moments from his career, concluding with a special 70mm screening of Sinners
featuring both Jordan and filmmaker Ryan Coogler in attendance.
Fans can revisit several of Jordan’s acclaimed performances
throughout November, including Fruitvale Station (Nov. 5), Creed
(Nov. 7), Just Mercy (Nov. 14), and Black Panther (Nov. 15). The
series will wrap up with the main event, Sinners, on November 22,
following the gala celebration.
Jordan — an accomplished actor, director, producer, and
entrepreneur — portrays twin brothers Stack and Smoke in Sinners,
marking his fifth collaboration with Coogler. He made his directorial debut
with Creed III and is set to both direct and star in The Thomas Crown
Affair. Among his accolades, Jordan is a TIME 100 honoree and
recipient of the Academy Museum Vanguard Award.
He joins an esteemed list of past American Cinematheque
Award winners, including Spike Lee, Ryan Reynolds, Reese Witherspoon, Ridley
Scott, Amy Adams, Helen Mirren, and Jessica Chastain.
The American Cinematheque Awards Gala serves as a
major fundraiser supporting the non-profit’s year-round programming at the Aero
Theatre in Santa Monica, the Los Feliz 3 Theatre, and the Egyptian
Theatre in Hollywood.
