Armie Hammer makes his big-screen return in the newly released trailer for Frontier Crucible, a gritty Western thriller that also stars William H. Macy and Thomas Jane. Directed by Travis Mills, the indie film is set to hit theaters on December 5 via Well Go USA Entertainment.
The cast also includes Myles Clohessy, Mary Stickley, Eli
Brown, Ryan Masson, Zane Holtz, and Eddie Spears.
Frontier Crucible follows Merrick Beckford, a man
thrust into a deadly battle for survival after he and three ruthless outlaws
accidentally kill an Apache scout. The film is produced by Dallas Sonnier,
David Guglielmo, Lillian Campbell, and Preston Poulter, and is adapted from
Harry Whittington’s 1961 novel Desert Stake-Out.
In the trailer, Macy’s character tells Hammer’s, “People
need medical supplies down south, and you know how to navigate the Apache. You
could do it — alone, unaccompanied.”
News of Hammer’s involvement in the project first surfaced
last October. Producer Dallas Sonnier—known for tough, male-driven indie films
like Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Dragged Across
Concrete—expressed his enthusiasm for working with Hammer, saying he was
excited to add the actor to his roster of collaborators that includes Kurt
Russell, Vince Vaughn, Mel Gibson, and others.
Hammer’s career took a downturn in 2021 following
allegations of sexual misconduct, which led to his agency, WME, dropping him
and his removal from several projects. While Hammer has denied any criminal
wrongdoing, he acknowledged being emotionally abusive in past relationships. Frontier
Crucible marks his first film release since Death on the Nile in
early 2022.
