Blumhouse turned up the scares and surprises at BlumFest 2025, held Friday during New York Comic Con, celebrating the studio’s 15th anniversary with major announcements, exclusive sneak peeks, and a star-studded lineup. The event spotlighted The Black Phone 2, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and the upcoming Blumhouse video game Sleep Awake plus a special reveal that Megan Fox has joined the FNAF 2 voice cast.
Founder and producer Jason Blum opened the panel by
reflecting on the studio’s journey and its commitment to nurturing new talent.
“One of the things I’m proudest of is discovering and empowering new voices people
like Jordan Peele,” Blum told fans. “What excites me most now is helping the
next generation of horror filmmakers who bring fresh energy and vision to the
genre.”
Blum also teased several upcoming projects, including Lee
Cronin’s The Mummy (“It’s really cool,” he said), Jessica
Chastain’s The Other Mommy directed by Rob Savage, and Nicole
Kidman’s crime series Scarpetta.
The panel featured a surprise in-universe message from Insidious:
The Red Door, confirming that the next installment in the franchise will
hit theaters next fall. Musician Robin Finck of Nine Inch Nails
also appeared to introduce Sleep Awake, a new Blumhouse Games
project that combines full-motion video with 3D gameplay. The
atmospheric survival title, set in a world where falling asleep causes people
to vanish, features a soundtrack to be released by Milan Records.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Director Emma Tammi, producer Jason Blum, and
stars Elizabeth Lail and Matthew Lillard joined fans to discuss
the upcoming sequel, teasing “a bunch more animatronics,” including Toy
Freddy and Toy Bonnie, both of whom appeared during the panel. Tammi
confirmed several new voice cast members Kellen Goff (Toy Freddy), MatPat
(Toy Bonnie), and Megan Fox (Toy Chica).
Tammi explained Fox’s casting: “Her kids are huge Five
Nights at Freddy’s fans, so she’s known this world for years. She was so
excited to bring Toy Chica to life and found the perfect balance between
honoring the games and making it her own.”
Lillard and Lail teased that the sequel will dive deeper
into the franchise’s lore and deliver even bigger jump scares for
fans.
The Black Phone 2
Blum returned to the stage alongside Ethan Hawke, Mason
Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Miguel Mora, Demián Bichir,
and author Joe Hill to debut exclusive footage and discuss the chilling
sequel to 2022’s breakout hit.
Hill, who wrote the original short story, reflected on its
humble beginnings: “I wrote it over 20 years ago and got paid about $35. Jason
Blum pays a little better,” he joked, praising director Scott Derrickson
and co-writer Robert Cargill for their heartfelt approach to the
material.
Hawke recalled hearing Derrickson’s pitch for the follow-up
while pacing through an airport: “Scott described the story, and it was
breathtaking just the dream of what this movie could be. Fans really connected
with the first one, and I think this will make them even happier.”
McGraw and Mora spoke about how their characters evolve in
the sequel, exploring the emotional aftermath of trauma. “Gwen is a completely
different person now more guarded, shaped by what she’s been through,” said
McGraw. Mora added, “The story dives deep into how these characters carry
grief. It’s heavy, but incredibly rewarding.”
