Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman reunited on Sunday night at AFI Fest for the premiere of their new film Song Sung Blue, where they play two struggling musicians who start a Neil Diamond tribute band.
Based on a true story, the movie follows a couple who refuse
to give up on their dreams, and both Hudson and Jackman got the chance to show
off their musical sides. On the red carpet, Hudson praised her co-star, telling
The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s hard not to feel magic with Hugh — he’s
such a bright, warm person. He has this youthful energy and such a generous
spirit. Honestly, it’s hard not to fall a little in love with him; he’s just
wonderful.”
Reflecting on their first recording session together, Hudson
shared, “It was about finding our groove. Recording for a live performance is
totally different from studio work, and we wanted to embrace the imperfections.
Spending those hours in the studio really helped us bond before stepping on set
to play this intimate married couple.”
Writer-director Craig Brewer remembered that same day
fondly: “It was truly magical. Watching them sing together for the first time —
the harmony, the chemistry — it was beautiful.”
Brewer added that once filming began, “the whole crew felt
it. Everyone said, ‘This is exactly what we didn’t know we were missing.’ Their
chemistry was contagious — every day, people would gather at the monitors just
to watch them work.”
